We poured an ADA compliant sidewalk, as well as the foundation and parking lot for Lake Point, an assisted living facility in Prosper, TX.
As the commercial contractor for this assisted living facility in Prosper, Texas, we poured their foundation, sidewalks, and parking lot. As with all public buildings, but especially for those frequented by elderly and disabled people, it was important for access to the building to be ADA compliant.
ADA stands for Americans with Disabilities Act, which is a set of rules that protects the rights of disabled people in American society. Within that act, Title III is the section that refers to public accommodations. It contains the rules for accessibility in public spaces. For sidewalks to be ADA compliant, they have specific requirements for width, cross slope, and grade.
Our sidewalks featured detectable warning surfaces at the base of the curb ramps. These are colored, ribbed concrete sections warning disabled people that they are approaching the base of a curb ramp. It's one of the great things about pouring concrete: We get the opportunity to make life easier for those in difficult circumstances.
