Building a Strong Foundation: for Leland's Cabins
When it comes to building a cabin that lasts, the foundation is key. That's why this customer decided to go with a pier and beam foundation for his cabin, and he trusted EW Enterprise to get the job done right.
Why Pier and Beam?
Our customer wanted something more permanent than the usual cinder block foundations used for portable buildings. He was looking for durability and stability, and that's exactly what a pier and beam foundation offers. It's designed to stand the test of time and provide solid support for the cabin.
The Process Step by Step
- Excavation: First things first, we dug down to create footings for the walls. This ensures that the foundation has a strong base.
- Footings: We formed and poured concrete footings. These act like feet for the walls, spreading out the weight and providing extra stability.
- Pier Drilling: Using a skid steer auger, the team drilled 34 piers.
- Setting Up SONO Tubes: After cleaning out the holes, we set up SONO tubes to shape the above-ground part of each pier.
- Pouring Piers: Next, we filled the tubes with concrete to form the piers. Once set, these would be the main supports for the cabin.
- Utilities Installation: Before going any further, we installed necessary utilities. This step is crucial to avoid any disruptions later on.
- Perimeter Walls: We plotted out where the walls would go and built plywood forms to shape them.
- Wall Construction: With the forms in place, we added rebar for reinforcement and poured concrete to create the perimeter walls.
- Form Removal: After the concrete cured, we removed the forms to reveal the new walls.
- Finishing Touches: Any imperfections were smoothed out, by rubbing and patching the walls as needed.
- Drainage System: To protect the foundation from water damage, they installed a drainage pipe around its perimeter.
- Backfilling: They covered the pipes with gravel and then backfilled the foundation, replacing the soil that was removed during excavation.
- Grading: Finally, they graded the inside of the foundation area to prepare for the cabin construction and rough graded around the outside for proper landscaping.
Thanks to EW Enterprise's meticulous work, Leland's cabin now sits on a foundation that's built to last. With every step carefully executed, from drilling piers to installing a drainage system, this pier and beam foundation isn't just a temporary fix—it's a long-term solution.
