Quality Storage Buildings is a portable building manufacturer located in Itasca, TX. With the company having grown substantially in the last 10 years, their current manufacturing facility was too small. Rather than attempting to expand on their current property outside of Itasca, they are building a brand new facility near the I-35 between Fort Worth and Waco.
Their new 30,000 square foot plant features a very heavy duty foundation. The perimeter beams were poured at a depth of 30 inches, and the concrete slab itself was poured at a depth of 6 inches. This pour was completed in two stages.
First we poured the perimeter beams and allowed those to cure for several weeks.
The next stage was to pour the 30,000 sq ft concrete concrete floor.
With daytime highs well over 100 degrees this time of year, it's better for the concrete and for our crew to work at night. We began pouring the concrete slab at about 2:00 a.m. and finished around 8:00 a.m. It required two pump trucks and about 70 concrete truck loads to complete the project.
For a manufacturing plant, having a level floor is a must. For that reason, we used a laser screed to keep the concrete level. A laser screed is a semi robotic device with four wheels. The operator uses a remote to move it alongside the newly poured concrete. Its arms reach out over the fresh concrete, and then retract back towards the machine, leveling the concrete to a uniform height.
For the owners of Quality Storage Buildings, it was exciting to see their architect's plans become a reality as load after load of concrete was poured, leveled, and finished.
