When faced with a difficult project, EW Enterprise was called in to save the day after another contractor failed to complete the job. The result? A washed-out creek crossing that cost the developer over $100k to repair. The challenge wasn’t just the damaged culverts, it was also the water. Other contractors claimed the water levels in the creek made the project impossible at this time of year. But that’s when EW Enterprise stepped in.
At EW Enterprise, we don’t shy away from a tough project. In this Cleburne, TX development, the headwalls for the creek crossing had to be done quickly and effectively. Despite the high water levels and unfavorable weather conditions, we knew there was a way to get the job done right.
We took immediate action, rerouting the water, pumping it out, and working through rain and shine. While others might have walked away, we committed to completing the project on time and within budget - no excuses.
The first step was excavating for the footers, the base of the 10-foot-tall headwalls. We used #4 rebar and placed it 12 inches on center to reinforce the footers. Once the concrete was poured, additional rebar was installed in the walls, creating a structure strong enough to withstand both the force of the water downstream and the pressure from the dirt pushing against the walls.
This careful planning and execution ensured the walls would stand strong, protecting the creek crossing from future floods and minimizing any chance of another washout.
One of the complexities of the project was the misalignment of the culvert pipes. The previous washout led to an emergency repair which led to the pipes not being aligned properly, adding a level of complexity to the job. After pouring the concrete, we carefully trimmed each pipe to ensure everything was in line and provided a clean, professional finish. We took the time to rub and patch the walls to meet the developer’s expectations, guaranteeing a job well done.
Where others saw an impossible task, we saw an opportunity to do what needed to be done. From rerouting water to ensuring the walls were built to last, EW Enterprise delivered. Our team stepped up, met the challenge, and brought the project to the finish line.
