Sloped Culverts for Triangle Shores Community

When it comes to laying the groundwork for luxury living, it's important to prepare a site that's both functional and safe for its community. This was precisely the challenge Weaver Excavating faced with their latest project at Triangle Shores—a high-end private community nestled beside Richland Chambers Lake.

Weaver Excavating is known for its dirt work capabilities, but they needed a concrete contractor to partner with them on this particular development, which is where we came in.

Making Triangle Shores a Safer Community

As you might guess, culverts are an important part of a lakeside development. 

A culvert allows water from one side of an obstacle like a roadway or embankment to pass through without impeding traffic flow or causing erosion issues. There are several ways to pour concrete around a culvert.

The more traditional method is to have a straight concrete wall that wraps around the culvert, acting as a stabilizing wall. This keeps the culvert in place and protects the road base from washing out. This is called a headwall.

In this case, the plans specified sloped culvert ends, which provide all the same erosion protection as a traditional headwall, but offer improved vehicle safety. If a driver happens to drive off the side of the road and down over the culvert, the angled concrete is much safer, reducing the damage to the vehicle and the likelihood that the driver will be seriously injured.

Besides the sloped culvert ends, we also poured a curb at the development entrance.
