Cabin Foundation for Couple Moving onto Raw Texas Property

Rather than building a home from the ground up, this couple decided to purchase a prebuilt cabin and place it on a concrete slab.

Federico and his wife bought a raw piece of property near Winona, a small town northeast of Tyler, TX. They selected a beautiful spot for their cabin, overlooking the gently rolling East Texas countryside. Because their land was completely raw and undeveloped, we needed to create access in order to be able to pour the pad.

One of our values here at EW Enterprise is that we never say ‘It’s not my job.” In other words, if any type of problem comes up that would prevent the project from moving forward, we work to find a solution. In this case, it meant that we needed to install a gravel entrance driveway on this hilly, wooded property. Before bringing in the gravel, we cleared the necessary trees so that we could perform drainage excavation and culvert installation.

After the driveway was ready and site excavation was complete, we were able to pour the concrete foundation for the couple’s cabin. We poured the slab to match the dimensions of the 16x48 ft cabin. Using 3000 psi concrete, we poured the slab 6 inches deep with an 8 inch thickened edge. After the slab was poured and the concrete forms were removed, we performed backfill and final grading around the concrete slab.

While the weather and the terrain did present some challenges, we were glad to help Federico and his wife achieve their dream of living in the country on their own piece of land.
